Golfing in Williamsburg Williamsburg has the advantage of being located along the Eastern seaboard - it's close to Richmond, Washington, DC, and Virginia Beach - and is steeped in historical interest and full of recreational opportunities. Golfers, especially, enjoy Williamsburg for its many championship courses and favorable weather condition from Spring through early Autumn. If you are interested in planning a golf vacation, or looking to retire to an area where you can hit the front nine any time you wish, Williamsburg may be the place for you.
Where to Golf in Williamsburg
Lush green and brilliant views make the golf courses of Williamsburg some of the most beautiful in the country. Whether you've come for the weekend or for a few weeks, you have your choice of greens that some of the world's best golfers have walked.
Kingsmill: What do Arnold Palmer, Pete Dye, Curtis Strange, and Tom Clark have in common? Well, aside from the fact that they are all legendary golfers, they each had a hand in designing the courses at Kingsmill. The River Course, named for its proximity to the James River, has hosted PGA and LPGA tours, and Kingsmill also offers a number of events like golf schools and tournaments to help with your game.
The Golden Horseshoe Golf Club: For decades, the Golden Horseshoe Club has welcomed golfers from around the world. Here you'll find two full course and one nine-hole course updated from the original 1947 course attached to the historic Williamsburg Inn.
Ford's Colony Country Club: Ford's Colony is minutes from the historic district and features three championship courses designed by Dan Maples. Members enjoy the courses for their beauty and relaxed pace, and the elegant club house and dining area offer great food and company after a good game.
Colonial Heritage Golf Club: Though a smaller club than others around Williamsburg, the Colonial Heritage is no less significant. Boasting the only Arthur Hills signature course in the area, this club offers elegant amenities and a challenging course for golfers of all levels.
Please note: before you pack your clubs, research each golf resort in the area so you will know when and if you can make a reservation.
For the golfer planning the ultimate holiday, Williamsburg is a must-stay on your next tour. With many attractions nearby to satisfy the entertainment needs of the whole family, this historic town is definitely a golfer's delight.
