Enjoy native flora and fauna (yes, we do get the occasional deer and assorted furry critters in deeper foliage) and don't forget the sunscreen, bug repellant, and your camera.

Mount Trashmore Park

Mount Trashmore is a popular spot for runners and walkers. The many trails are great for regular exercise in the fresh air, and the kids love the recently expanded playground and skate park. Climb the hill and have a look around town, bring a kite to fly or a Frisbee to throw, and enjoy!

First Landing State Park

Off Shore Drive toward Fort Story
First Landing is the city's most visited state park, and features many trails for hikers and mountain bikers. For a fee you can access the lakefront or ocean for a day at a semi-secluded beach, and you can rent cabins or tent space for an extended stay.

False Cape State Park

4001 Sandpiper Road
For those who really enjoy roughing it, False Cape offers opportunities to fish, row, and camp. You can't drive there directly but will have to take a tram to the park area. Check with Virginia State Parks for schedules.

Redwing Park

Off General Booth Boulevard
Redwing Park is close to area campgrounds and features a lovely Japanese garden for quiet meditation. Events are held at the park year round, so check with us to see what's happening.
