Things to Do in Richmond

We visited several museums and tourism spots throughout the area to see what’s new. Check out these great Richmond attractions and make a note of all the cool things to do when you’re visiting! For more information, you can find them on The Vacation Channel on Roku or Amazon Fire TV.

This newly-renovated museum is dedicated to Virginia History. Spanning ancient history to colonial history to the present, this museum explores the geography, culture, and people that have shaped the commonwealth over the years. Their current exhibition, “Julie Child: A Recipe for Life” is on view through September 2, 2024.

Located on the site of the historic Tredegar Ironworks, the American Civil War Museum explores the causes, course and consequences of the war that remade America. Thoughtful galleries present artifacts from soldiers, civilians, indigenous people and enslaved people. Their stories are woven throughout the museum with interactive touchscreens that allow visitors a deeper understanding of the Civil War.

The Maymont estate spans 100 acres and includes a historic residence, botanical gardens, a farm, a nature center, and wildlife habitats. Explore a slice of Richmond history at the Maymont Mansion, take the kids to the farm to pet the goats, or have a picnic amongst the verdant landscape. There’s so much to do at Maymont that you’ll need a few days to see it all!
